AI-generated search results are not always perfect. Google AI Overviews, ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, and other AI platforms pull information from many sources across the internet, including websites, directories, old articles, social profiles, review sites, business listings, and third-party databases.

If an AI tool presents incorrect information about your business, it does not automatically mean your Google Business Profile, website, or marketing has been set up incorrectly.

Incorrect AI results can happen for several reasons:

  • The AI platform found outdated information from an old directory, past employer, former address, or older version of your business.
  • A third-party website may be displaying inaccurate details.
  • The AI system may have misunderstood or combined information from multiple sources.
  • The result may be a temporary error or “fluke” in how the AI summarized the information.
  • Google or another platform may not have fully refreshed its understanding of your business yet.
  • Similar business names, provider names, or locations can sometimes confuse AI systems.

What You Can Do

If you see wrong information in Google AI results or another AI chatbot, take a screenshot and note the exact search question or prompt used.

For Google results, look for options such as:

  • Feedback
  • Report a problem
  • Suggest an edit
  • This result is inaccurate

Use that feature to clearly explain what is incorrect and provide the correct information.

For AI chatbots, you can usually give feedback directly inside the platform. In some cases, asking the chatbot where it found the information can help identify the source that needs to be corrected.

Important Note

AI platforms are constantly learning from many sources, not just your website or Google Business Profile. Keeping your website, Google Business Profile, directories, and online mentions consistent gives AI tools the best chance of presenting accurate information, but occasional errors can still happen.
