The Kids 30-Day Brushing Challenge

A Simple Community Marketing Program for Dentists Who Want to Attract More Families

Marketing to families doesn’t have to rely on discounts, gimmicks, or constant advertising. One of the most effective ways to grow a family-focused dental practice is to become a familiar, trusted presence in the community—especially with parents and young children.

The Kids 30-Day Brushing Challenge is a low-cost, high-impact community marketing program designed for children in grades 1–3. It encourages healthy habits, engages parents, and brings families into the dental practice in a natural, positive way.

Why This Program Works

This challenge succeeds because it does three things well:

  1. It gives children a fun, achievable goal
  2. It involves parents in daily accountability
  3. It creates a reason for families to visit the dental office without pressure

By the time a family drops off their completed tracker, the dental practice is no longer unfamiliar. The office, the team, and the environment already feel welcoming and safe.

Program Overview

Children participate in a 30-day brushing challenge, brushing twice per day—once in the morning and once at night. Parents confirm participation by initialing a daily tracker. At the end of the challenge, families bring the completed tracker to the dental practice to be entered into a prize drawing.

Prizes are intentionally age-appropriate and exciting, ensuring kids stay motivated while keeping costs manageable for the practice.

What the Dental Practice Provides

Each child receives a simple brushing kit that includes:

  • A 30-day brushing tracker
  • A toothbrush
  • A 2-minute brushing timer

The practice also prepares:

  • A small set of individual prizes for participating children
  • One class prize for the classroom with the most completed entries

How the Challenge Works (Step-by-Step)

1. Distribute the Brushing Kits

The dental practice provides brushing kits to local elementary school classrooms serving grades 1–3. The challenge is introduced as a fun way to build healthy habits, with no appointments or treatment required.

2. Daily Brushing at Home

For 30 days:

  • Children brush twice daily (AM and PM)
  • Parents place a checkmark on the tracker
  • A parent or guardian initials each completed day

Consistency is encouraged, not perfection.

3. Drop-Off at the Dental Practice

After completing the 30 days, families have one week to bring the completed tracker to the dental practice.

This in-office drop-off is a key part of the program. It allows:

  • Children to feel comfortable in the office environment
  • Parents to meet the front desk team
  • Families to associate the practice with positive reinforcement and education

No appointment is required.

4. Office Experience During Drop-Off

When families arrive:

  • Children are greeted and congratulated
  • Trackers are placed into the contest entry box
  • Prizes are visible in the reception area

The visit should feel friendly, relaxed, and celebratory—not clinical.

5. Prizes and Recognition

Individual Prizes

Multiple winners are selected from completed entries. Prizes should be items kids genuinely enjoy, such as:

  • LEGO® mini kits or building toys
  • Pokémon or sports trading cards
  • Small plush toys
  • Slime kits, fidgets, or art sets

Class Prize

The classroom with the most completed entries dropped off at the practice receives:

  • A healthy snack delivery to the classroom
  • Optional toothbrushes or timers for the entire class

Sample 30-Day Brushing Tracker

Each child uses a simple tracker that includes:

  • AM and PM brushing checkboxes
  • A space for parent initials each day
  • Child name and teacher information

Parents confirm daily participation by initialing the tracker, reinforcing accountability and consistency.

Why This Matters for Practice Growth

This program isn’t about immediate appointments. It’s about familiarity, trust, and goodwill.

When parents already know:

  • Where your office is
  • Who your team is
  • How welcoming the environment feels

Choosing your practice later becomes easy and natural.

Budget-Friendly and Scalable

The Kids 30-Day Brushing Challenge is:

  • Affordable
  • Easy to repeat
  • Scalable across multiple schools

Many practices choose to run it once or twice per year to maintain community visibility.
