How Dentists Can Fix Their Location Across Major Platforms
Using OpenStreetMap (OSM) + Direct Edits**
If your dental office appears in the wrong location on Apple Maps, Facebook, Instagram, Strava, or other apps, correcting the information in OpenStreetMap (OSM) is one of the fastest ways to fix it everywhere.
OSM powers major platforms, including Apple Maps, Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat, Strava, and hundreds of apps using Mapbox.
This guide shows you:
How to correct your information in OSM
How to supplement those corrections directly in each major platform
1. Fix Your Information on OpenStreetMap (OSM)
Step-by-step: Correct Your Dental Office in OSM
Go to https://www.openstreetmap.org/
Create or log into your account.
Use the search bar to find your dental office.
Click Edit → choose Edit with iD (in-browser).
Correct any of the following:
Drag the pin to the correct building
Adjust or redraw the building outline
Fix the address
Add or correct details (name, phone, website, hours)
In the left panel, ensure it’s tagged as:
amenity = dentist
name = Your Practice Name
Click Save, add a short note (e.g., “Correcting dental office location using local knowledge”), then upload.
Important: Do not copy from Google Maps or any copyrighted data—use your own knowledge.
2. Apple Maps (Uses OSM for building & land data)
Fixing OSM helps long-term, but you should also report directly to Apple.
How to fix your dental office on Apple Maps
Open Apple Maps.
Find your business.
Scroll down and tap Report an Issue.
Choose:
Location (move the pin)
Place Details (name, phone, hours)
Add Missing Place (if it’s not listed)
Submit.
Apple usually updates within 1–4 weeks.
3. Facebook & Instagram (Use OSM for map boundaries)
Your address & map pin come from a combination of Facebook’s data and OSM.
To fix your practice on Facebook/Instagram
Go to your Facebook Business Page.
Click Edit Page Info.
Update:
Address
Phone
Website
Hours
If the map pin still looks wrong:
Click the map preview → Edit Location → drag the pin.
Fixing OSM ensures the surrounding map is correct so the Facebook pin sits in the right place.
4. Snapchat (Snap Map uses OSM)
Updating OSM fixes building outlines for Snap Map.
To report issues directly to Snapchat
Open Snapchat.
Pinch to open Snap Map.
Tap your business or the map area.
Select Report a Map Issue.
5. Strava (Routes & maps use OSM)
If Strava shows your building or roads incorrectly, OSM edits will fix these.
To submit directly to Strava (optional)
6. Mapbox Apps (Shopify, CNN, Snapchat, Weather apps, etc.)
Mobile apps
Websites
Business directories using Mapbox
No direct reporting required—OSM is the fix.
7. Uber, Lyft, Delivery Apps (partial OSM use)
Fixing OSM helps with:
Drop-off accuracy
Side roads
Parking lots
Access points
Also report directly:
Choose options like "Incorrect pin" or "Address issue."
8. Google Maps (Does NOT use OSM)
Google is separate—you must correct it manually.
To fix your dental office on Google Maps
Visit https://business.google.com/
Claim or open your Google Business Profile.
Update:
Address
Hours
Website
Phone
If the pin is in the wrong place:
Click Edit Map Location and drag it to the correct building.
Google does not read OSM, so this is a separate process.
9. Wikipedia / Wikimedia Maps (OSM-based)
If your building is used as a landmark in Wikipedia, OSM corrections automatically help.
No action needed beyond OSM edits.
